Heather Hegedus joined FOX25 News as Weekend Anchor in January, 2012. She anchors the Saturday and Sunday editions of "FOX 25 News at 6p.m.," "FOX 25 News at 10p.m." and the Sunday edition of "FOX 25 News at 11p.m." During the week, Heather is a General Assignment Reporter.
Heather was born here and raised in Lynnfield, Mass, on the North Shore. Her first job, in high school, was as a tour guide on the trolleys in Salem, Mass.!
Prior to joining WFXT, Heather was a Weekend Anchor and Reporter at WFSB in Hartford, Conn. for five years. There, Heather broke several stories, including the abrupt resignation of New Haven's police chief in the middle of his contract, as that city experienced one of its worst homicide rates in years.
She was also one of the first anchors to go on the air, and later report from the scene of a power plant explosion that took the lives of six workers.
She spent several months digging to uncover which school superintendents across the state were taking raises while their districts made drastic budget cuts.
In 2011, she swept the Associated Press and Society of Professional Journalists awards with "First Place" nods in the Breaking News, General Reporting, and Investigative categories.
Heather started her over decade-long career in news as a field producer with "The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer" and, later, the NBC News Washington Bureau. She also spent time as an Anchor and Reporter in Binghamton and Syracuse. There, she was part of breaking news coverage of historic flooding that was honored with an Edward R. Murrow award.
Heather graduated Magna Cum Laude from Georgetown University with a degree in Government. She spent a year at the London School of Economics in England and has a Master's of Science from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism, where she received the Dean's award.
Heather's happy to be back in Boston covering news in the cities and towns she knows best. She'd love your story ideas, photos – or just a hello! You can email her at Heather.Hegedus@foxtv.com or find her on Facebook.com/HeatherHegedus and on Twitter.
