Ortiz keeps hitting, Red Sox beat Rays again 6-4

Posted: Updated:

BOSTON (AP) - David Ortiz doubled in the go-ahead run for his seventh consecutive hit and the Boston Red Sox won their third straight game over the Tampa Bay Rays, 6-4 on Sunday.

Boston, on a tear since a season-opening 1-5 road trip, can complete a series sweep in Monday's traditional Patriots' Day game that starts at 11:05 a.m. Last year the Red Sox were just 2-7 at home against the Rays.

Ortiz, who signed a one-year contract in the offseason, is off to one of the best starts of his career.

He's 16 for 36 in nine games in April, a month in which he has struggled in recent years. He had 20 hits in 22 April games in 2009, eight in 16 games in 2010 and 23 in 25 games in 2011.
