It is a page right out of the rebellious teen handbook heading to the mall to shop for something mom and dad wouldn't approve of. But a Dedham mother says one retail chain is capitalizing on that for profit, and she wants them to clean up their act.
FOX 25 took a look at the Urban Outfitters Web site and there are more than just clothes. The brand sells counterculture and rebellion, hawking books and T-shirts with inappropriate slogans.
Many of the same items are carried in their stores. When Dedham mom Ann Hunnewell went shopping with her 13-year-old at the store's local outpost, she says she was disturbed by what she saw.
According to the Boston Globe, Hunnewell contacted the company's CEO and received a letter back saying senior buyers and others within the company shared her concerns. But it did not address the issue of moving toward change.
Hunnewell has started a Facebook campaign and also contacted the Dedham board of Selectmen to see if any elements of the store violated any zoning issues because of the adult material.
According to reports, a review of the store found it did not violate any laws.
