A reputed soldier in the New England mafia is one of several people under arrest tonight, the latest development in a months-long State Police probe of organized crime and drug dealing in Massachusetts.
FOX Undercover’s camera was there this evening when a handcuffed Darin Bufalino was brought into State Police barracks in Danvers. He had been arrested earlier after a State Police Special Tactical Operation Team forced their way into his Winthrop home.
Bufalino has a long criminal record and is described by a law enforcement source as a Mafia soldier. He is due to be arraigned Thursday in Suffolk Superior Court.
He and several other people were taken into custody today as part of a sweeping organized crime investigation that has already resulted in several arrests as well as the seizure of hundreds of pounds of drugs, weapons and nearly $2 million in cash.
The investigation first came to light last May when State Police arrested another alleged Mafioso, Mark Rossetti. Prosecutors describe him as a mob captain who was running a heroin ring.
A spokesperson for the Essex County District Attorney’s office, which began the investigation, declined to comment. The latest arrests will be prosecuted by the state Attorney General’s office, which is planning a press conference Thursday.
