Man who ran marathons while on workers comp heads to court

The man who ran 2 marathons after trying to get on worker's compensation for life appeared in court.

John Cloutier has been out of work since 2008. He claimed he injured his lower back on the job and wanted a full disability retirement from the state.

For nearly two years Cloutier continued collecting his paycheck. But now that's changed. The Department of Correction has finally fired him.

Cloutier was already out of work for six months when he ran a marathon at Walt Disney World in Florida in January 2009. The day before, he ran Disney’s half marathon. But it doesn't end there.

Eight months later, In September 2009, the supposedly injured Cloutier traveled to California for yet another half marathon.

Records reveal Coutier applied for an accidental disability retirement in June of last year, a benefit that would give him 72 percent of his $62,000 salary. Tax free for the rest of his life.

Cloutier was released on his own recognizance and will appear in court again in July.  If convicted he can serve up to 5 years in prison.
