A charity president accused of stealing money from the people she was supposed to be helping is about to face a judge.
More than a year after Fox Undercover started its own investigation, Touched By Angels founder Gina Clark will be arraigned Thursday morning in Barnstable Superior Court on a long list of charges:
*Larceny by Embezzlement over $250 (15 counts)
*Larceny by Embezzlement under $250
*Illegal Lottery Scheme
*Minimum Wage Violations (10 counts)
*Overtime Law Violations (2 counts)
*Failure to Provide Proper Paystub
*Independent Contractor violations
After the allegations first surfaced last year in a video that aired on public access television on Cape Cod, Clark told her side of the story to Fox Undercover, insisting she did nothing wrong.
“I've never taken a dime,” said Clark in April 2010, claiming she did not pay herself a salary.
Fox Undercover also raised questions about Clark's lavish lifestyle.
She bought her Marstons Mills home for $710,000 the year before she started the charity and drives a Mercedes Benz SUV.
Clark’s husband is a firefighter who makes about $50,000 a year.
“You have fancy cars, you have a big beautiful home. How do you afford it?” asked Mike Beaudet.
“You know what. I'm going to say just this. I had all this way before Touched by Angels and I’m going to leave it like that,” replied Clark.
Attorney General Martha Coakley shut down the charity last summer and then aggressively conducted a criminal investigation which resulted in the criminal charges in March.
Clark presumably wasn’t concerned about facing any charges last year when she sat down with Mike Beaudet.
“Are you worried the Attorney General's investigation could lead to criminal charges against you?” asked Beaudet.
“Never, never, never,” said Clark. “There’s nothing that anyone could get me for because I've done nothing wrong but poured my whole heart and soul in here.”
Clark and her attorney did not respond to requests for a comment, but her attorney has insisted in the past that his client has done nothing wrong.
If convicted of all the charges against her 40 year old Clark could spend the rest of her life in prison.
