Cities across the U.S. are preparing to celebrate the first ever National Swap Day on this Saturday, January 22nd. Sponsored by Swap.com, National Swap Day is a countrywide celebration to spread the budget-savvy and eco-friendly practice of swapping before shopping.
Events for swapping everything from women's fashions to sporting goods to holiday gifts you didn't quite love, are taking place in more than 15 cities across the United States, including Boston.
The event will be held tomorrow at Arts at the Armory at 191 Highland Ave. in Somerville.
Over 400 fashionable Bostonians are expected to attend Thursday's National Swap Day event. Participants should bring a bag of things they've bought, or received as gifts, but barely (or never) used. This includes like-new and gently loved fashions, books, movies, and music to exchange it for new-to-them items from the closets of fellow Bostonians.
Drop-off will take place between 5-7:45, and the Swap.com team will curate a "swap boutique" - much like a store - of all the items brought in. At 8 p.m. sharp, women can swap 'til they drop. The cost is $15, and all participants will receive a special reusable Swap Day bag to take their new loot home in.
Amy Chase and Melissa Massello of Swap.com stopped by the FOX25 Morning News to talk more about the event.
