Looking for a new way to work out and still feel like you spent a day at the beach? An indoor surf class that lets you hang-ten on dry land might be for you.
If you always dreamed of hanging ten with the Big Kahuna, now Crunch is offering a new fitness class that can show you the ropes and get you in shape to ride those waves.
The class is all about balance, coordination, and strength. The class aims to target are your legs, your core, which you need for you board sports.
To work out those areas, each soon-to-be surfer uses an indoor board during the class. And these mini-boards get pretty tricky. Just ask 26-year-old Nicole Anziani, a Californian who's never even been on a surfboard.
“We did squats and the fact that you're wobbling around, it makes different parts of you engage,” she said. “You get kind of aware of your core. So I actually found it very much more challenging than just the regular workouts that I’m used to on the floor.”
But the best part is not even in the gym. Once the members are ready and have grasped the basic skills of surfing, the group gets together and hits the beach.
