A Montana woman whose dog was being attacked by a 200-pound black bear fought back with a zucchini and won, the Great Falls Tribune reported Thursday.
The paper quoted Missoula County Sheriff's Lt. Rich Maricelli as saying the woman's 12-year-old collie was attacked by the bear shortly after midnight Wednesday on the back porch of her home about 15 miles west of Missoula.
Maricelli said the woman, whose name was not released, jumped into her doorway and grabbed the nearest item on her kitchen counter, which turned out be a 12-inch zucchini from her garden.
She hurled the vegetable at the bear, striking him in the head, and he ran off. Wildlife officials were reported trying to locate him Thursday.
