Man Accused Of Killing Rehab Roommate For Singing

An 81-year-old man will be arraigned Tuesday on a felony count of murder after he allegedly beat his 94-year-old roommate to death with a metal rod in their shared room at a Southern California rehabilitation center, the Orange County Register reported.

Authorities told the paper William Leo McDougall and Manh Van Nguyen were both recovering from hip surgery at the Palm Terrace Healthcare Center in Laguna Woods on Friday, Oct. 1.

McDougall, allegedly angered by Nguyen's singing in Vietnamese, grabbed a metal rod from a closet and stuck his roommate several times over the head.

A nurse witnessed the attack and McDougall was restrained by other staffers. He was charged with murder and remained in custody at Orange County Jail on a $1 million bail. Nguyen died of blunt force trauma to the head after he was taken to the hospital, the paper said.
