BOSTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - In Boston, homicide detectives are desperately trying to find the killer of former Watertown Police Officer Gail Miles.

Miles was found beaten to death in her Roxbury apartment on 8 Wardman Road at Roxbury in December.

Miles who was 60-years-old at the time of her death was known for her kindness, but she was tough and knew how to take of herself which is why police believe the former cop knew her killer. Police believe Miles let her killer into her apartment.

Miles surrounded herself with animals, volunteered her time, and had a caring heart.

Boston Police were called to Miles' second floor apartment by a friend asking for a wellness check.

The friend had tried to get in contact with her multiple times and called the police when Miles never called him back.

Police had to force open Miles' door and found her lifeless body in the kitchen.

Miles was badly bean and left to die.

Her murder shocked the family, and the fact that it is unsolved makes it even harder.

As a former police officer, the first African-American police officer in the city's history.

Boston Police Homicide Detective Gary Mitchell told FOX 25's Bob Ward the level of violence directed at Miles was very personal.

"From my experience, it tells me the person had a grudge or something. And they were angry toward Gail. That's what tells me as a result of this beating," Mitchell said.

The problem is police can not find anyone who was that angry with Miles.

At time of the murder, her townhouse was foreclosed, but the new owner made arrangements to let Miles stay in her apartment.

As far as anyone know even that difficult process was going smoothly.

Miles' family is slowly coming to terms with the awful realities of her murder. All they can do now is wait for justice.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Boston Police Crimestoppers at 1-800-494-TIPS.
