State Police officials say the unidentified trooper stopped a Honda Civic on Boston Street in Lynn around 9:30 p.m. on Friday night. The driver of the vehicle, 25-year-old Nestor Mendez, tried to flee the scene as the trooper approached the car. The trooper jumped out of the way to avoid being hit, but was hit by a second car.
Mendez was arrested shortly after fleeing and charged with operating under the influence of alcohol, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery on a police officer, leaving the scene of a personal injury crash, and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
