
A Massachusetts State Trooper hit by a car while pulling over an illegal immigrant who was allegedly driving drunk is out of the hospital.
State Police officials say the unidentified trooper stopped a Honda Civic on Boston Street in Lynn around 9:30 p.m. on Friday night. The driver of the vehicle, 25-year-old Nestor Mendez, tried to flee the scene as the trooper approached the car. The trooper jumped out of the way to avoid being hit, but was hit by a second car.
Mendez was arrested shortly after fleeing and charged with operating under the influence of alcohol, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery on a police officer, leaving the scene of a personal injury crash, and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
ICE tells FOX 25 they have lodged a detainer for the suspect. He will be turned over to ICE after he is released from state custody.
The trooper was treated at Salem Hospital for upper and lower body injuries.
