1B Davis gets win, O's outlast Bosox in 17 innings
BOSTON (AP) - First baseman Chris Davis struck out five times, grounded into a double play and then tossed two scoreless innings of relief after Baltimore ran out of pitchers, picking up the win as the Orioles beat Boston 9-6 Sunday in 17 innings.
Adam Jones hit a three-run homer in the top of the 17th off Darnell McDonald, an outfielder the Red Sox put on the mound once their bullpen was empty.
Boston got two men on to start the 17th against Davis (1-0), making his pro pitching debut. But he struck out All-Star slugger Adrian Gonzalez and got McDonald to ground into a double play 6 hours, 7 minutes after the game started.
J.J. Hardy had five hits, including two homers, as Baltimore won its fifth in a row.
