NEWTON -
A 26-year-old Newton man with a green thumb is at the center of a dispute with city officials.
Eli Katzoff decided he wanted to grow tomatoes to sell to neighbors and donate to local food pantries.
Katzoff contacted the city two months ago to make sure it was alright if he built a structure to grow the tomatoes upside down.
An inspection officer told him he had no issue with Katzoff building the structure so he went ahead with the project. However, the location of the structure has become an issue. Newton prohibits any large structures like pools or swings from being built in the front yard of residential homes.
City officials stress that they want to work with Katzoff on this issue. Neighbors tell FOX 25 they have no problem with the structure.
