A Boy Scout leader from Ashburnham was arrested on Thursday on possession and distribution of child pornography charges.
Police say 75-year-old Joseph Dennis Cormier was arrested at his home in Ashburnham after weeks of investigation.
Cormier was arraigned in Winchendon District Court on Thursday and held on $25,000 bail.
Police confirmed to FOX 25 that Cormier is a local Boy Scout leader. FOX 25 reached out to the Boy Scouts for comment, and received a response from the Nashua Valley Council.
The Executive Director of the Nashua Valley Council section of the Boy Scouts of America responded to the allegations in a statement:
"Along with the rest of the community, we were shocked to learn about the allegations against this individual. The behavior included in these allegations runs counter to everything for which the Boy Scouts of America stands. Upon learning of these allegations we immediately revoked the individual's membership and removed him from Scouting," says director Gary Savignano.
Cormier has no criminal history in Ashburnham. Police say the investigation is ongoing.
