The name of a Boston College graduate student killed when an MBTA bus hit her on Huntington Avenue Friday night has been released.
Kelsey Rennebohm is the third person to be killed in the area in the past five years. Police say the 28-year-old was riding her bike on Huntington Avenue near Northeastern when she was hit by an MBTA bus and fell off of her bike into traffic.
The details of the accident are still under investigation. So far, the bus driver has not been charged with anything.
Mayor Tom Menino says he is aware that three cyclists have been killed in that area. He admits that something needs to be done.
"I'm going to ask my transportation department to look at the concerns, there's lots of congestion over there, and no marked cycling lanes there also," says Mayor Menino.
The mayor adds that traffic is an issue in that area, and he wants transportation officials to figure out a solution since there are plenty of people constantly riding bikes and walking through there.
