Youth of the Year

Posted: Updated:

BOSTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – The Massachusetts State House took a break from politics Monday morning to recognize some local teenagers who proved to be some of the best role models in the state.

The Massachusetts Youth of the Year is Giovani Dulcio from the Boys and Girls Club of Worcester. The runner-ups from Haverhill, Fall River and Waltham were also honored with a reception Monday morning before touring the State House with Gov. Deval Patrick.

The Youth of the Year contest is a months-long process that judges the teens on everything from their moral character to academics and dedication to their community.

Giovani is proud of being a leader among his peers and thankful to the Boys and Girls Club.

In winning Youth of the Year, Giovani also becomes the first winner of the $20,000 Myra H. Kraft Giving Back scholarship.

If Giovani wins the national Youth of the Year, he will get another $20,000 for school.
