(FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - Running for a reason, students from four local high schools came together to help find a cure for cancer.
Students from Leominster, Monty Tech, Oak Mont and Mount Wachussett participated in the Relay for Life of the Greater Gardner area.
The students chose to run to the relay, carrying a replica of the Olympic torch donated by the Special Olympics.
Most of the students were running for teachers who recently died of cancer, others had more personal reasons.
In all, the teens ran 20 miles to hand the torch off for the opening ceremony.
The Greater Gardner Relay for Life has raised an average of nearly $800,000 in donations each year.
