WORCESTER (AP) - A four-alarm blaze has destroyed an under-renovation Worcester apartment building and damaged three occupied buildings has been deemed suspicious.
Authorities think the fire on Merrick Street reported just before 4 a.m. Tuesday started in the empty three-unit building, but the exact cause remains under investigation.
Fire officials said three firefighters suffered minor injuries, but there were no reports of tenant injuries.
The Red Cross responded to the scene and said it was helping 16 people from five families displaced from the damaged homes.
Many residents ran into the street barefoot and in their night clothes.
