New tanning booth legislation approved by Senate

Posted: Updated:

(FOX 25 / - A bill prohibiting teens under the age of 16 from using tanning beds without a written order from a doctor and parental consent was approved by the Senate on Tuesday.

Senators did not debate the legislation, quickly passing a bill that had also cleared the Senate in April 2010, but did not pass the House of Representatives.

Under the bill, teens who want to tan would need a parent or legal guardian to sign a permission form and statement in the presence of the tanning facilities operator acknowledging they understand the warning statements.

The tanning operator would also be required to sign the written consent form as a witness when the parent or guardian signs.
