WORCESTER (AP) - After hearing presentations and recommendations from
gambling industry policy experts, the head of the Massachusetts Gaming
Commission says he's confident the state can support multiple casinos and a slot
parlor.
Commission members were joined by policy experts to discuss the Northeast's
current gambling market during a Thursday morning forum at Quinsigamond
Community College in Worcester.
Chairman Stephen Crosby said he believes the analyses conducted by the
various policy experts support the assumption that Massachusetts can support the
multiple gambling venues outlined in the law Gov. Deval Patrick signed in
November.
Despite concerns over competition with casinos in Connecticut and Rhode
Island, forum panelist Clyde Barrow said there is enough unmet demand in the
region to avoid market saturation.
But Stephen Norton, another panelist, raised concerns that markets do
overlap.
