BOSTON (AP) - The Boston Red Sox have activated Cody Ross and placed Scott Podsednik on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left groin.

Ross started Tuesday night's game against the Miami Marlins in left field. Ryan Kalish started in center field, Podsednik's usual position.

Ross was hitting .271 with eight homers and 28 RBIs in 37 games when he went on the disabled list on May 22 with a fractured bone in his left foot. He signed with Boston in January after spending the past two seasons with San Francisco.

Podsednik, hurt Sunday night against the Chicago Cubs, hit .387 with one homer and 7 RBIs in 19 games after being called up by the Red Sox on May 22. They obtained him from Philadelphia on May 11.
