WESTWOOD (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – Westwood police have made an arrest in a hit-and-run that seriously injured a woman and killed her dog.
Donald A. Gentile, of Wrentham, turned himself in to police Thursday. He was arraigned Thursday in Dedham District Court and bail was set at $10,000 cash or $100,000 surety. Gentile is being held because his bail from an outstanding domestic violence case was revoked.
Gentile was also ordered not to drive.
Police say the victim, Jillian Belanger, was walking her dog on Washington Street just before 9 p.m. Monday when she was hit. The 26-year-old remains in the intensive care unit. Her dog was also killed in the hit-and-run.
Investigators released surveillance video and still pictures of the suspected car this week, hoping someone recognizes the white vehicle. On Wednesday, a student police officer en route to police academy on Route 128 saw the car with the bumper being held up with a black strap. That officer captured images of the car.
When authorities found the vehicle, they said Gentile had already replaced the windshield. They also found the car with a lot of damage and red and brown stains on it. A headlight was also discovered at the scene.
Gentile, who works as a painter, is due back in court in July.
