A Waltham Police Chief arrested last week on charges of domestic assault is now at a mental health facility.
Thomas LaCroix is accused of hitting his wife and his neighbor. On Thursday in court it was revealed that the alleged violence may have been over allegations of an affair.
According to police report, LaCroix accused his wife of adultery when he found a text message she sent to a male co-worker. The report states he started drinking heavily that day and when she returned home from work, he rammed the garage with his car and then attacked her.
Also, a co worker of Mrs. LaCroix tells police there is a history of abuse with the couple. The co-worker claims Mrs. LaCroix has said in the past he has attacked her before and once fired gunshots at a door in their home during an argument.
Police say they found a noose made from bed sheets in the home after his arrest, indicating he had thoughts of suicide.
Mrs. LaCroix had told police she wasn't going to file charges because she didn't want her husband to lose his job.
LaCroix is being released to an undisclosed in patient treatment center for stress. He will have to wear a GPS device during his stay.
Chief LaCroix will be back in court on August 3 for a pre-trial hearing.
