For him to be a victim of this type of senseless violence, I think it has touched us all in a very profound way," said Detroit Police Chief Ralph Godbee.

Marcel Jackson was a friend to the chief, to the city and to the people of Detroit.  He was a husband and a father of six, who volunteered with The Detroit 300 trying to get bad guys off the street.  Police are now looking for the bad guy who took him away much too soon.

"I feel very confident that there are people that know who this individual is.  Plus, with what we're pulling from an investigative standpoint, I am cautiously optimistic that we're moving towards a resolution in the very near future," Godbee said.

Jackson was working security at Club Pandemonium Tuesday night.  He kicked a guy out for slapping a woman.  Later that guy was still allegedly hanging around circling the club and opened fire hitting Jackson in the back.  The gunman took off in a gray Dodge Charger.

"It's just so vicious," said Angelo Henderson, vice president of The Detroit 300.  "There are plenty of people who were inside the club.  The guy hung out outside of the club for awhile.  He was in that smoky gray car."

The Detroit 300, as always, is doing their own detective work to try to solve this crime against one of their own.

"Our guys have been out on the street asking questions.  We've been getting a ton of tips on our hotline and that's been really working great.  We've gotten some people who have said they even [saw] some things," Henderson said.

He is not only asking for tips, but also asking for donations for the family Jackson leaves behind -- six children, the youngest still an infant.

They were able to raise $5,000 just yesterday.  They are asking anyone interested in making donations to do so at any Fifth-Third Bank to the Marcel Jackson Memorial Fund.
