Aunt accused of leaving 5-month-old girl in hot, locked car
LEOMINSTER – A 5-month-old child is now in state custody. Her aunt allegedly left her inside a sweltering van.
Ruth Allende is the baby's caretaker. She's been charged with reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct for allegedly leaving the child in a van outside an Old Navy store in Leominster for about half an hour on Sunday.
Authorities say the windows were rolled up and temperatures hit 85 degrees inside that car.
When police cracked those windows, they found the sleeping child covered in sweat, but otherwise OK.
