TAUNTON, Mass. (AP) - A man sought after allegedly pointing a gun at a Taunton police officer has been safely arrested.
Brockton police Lt. Paul Bonanca tells the Taunton Daily Gazette that 30-year-old James White of Taunton was unarmed when he was arrested Tuesday morning on the grounds of the Brockton Veterans Administration hospital.
State and local police began searching for White on Monday night after Taunton police answering a disturbance call reported that a man pointed a rifle at an officer and then pointed a handgun at his own temple before fleeing into the woods. Police said the man appeared to be distraught, but wasn't believed to be a danger to others.
White faces charges of assault with a dangerous weapon and firearms violations. The weapons he was seen carrying Monday night haven't been recovered.
