EGREMONT (AP) - Owners say work could begin to soon remove the
remnants of a more than 200-year-old western Massachusetts inn that was
destroyed by fire in 2009.
The Berkshire Eagle reports that the Egremont Board
of Health recently issued an enforcement order against the property owners of
what had been the Egremont Inn. Robert and Marie Johnson were ordered to remove
the standing buildings, fill the basement and clear the property of debris and a
fence by the end of May.
A representative of the Johnsons made a verbal commitment to go ahead with a
demolition.
The site's property manager says he's working with state environmental
officials for a demolition permit and clearing the site will take three or four
days.
Egremont is near the New York-Massachusetts line.
