QUINCY (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - An 18-year-old Quincy man drowned while swimming at Hough's Neck on Sunday.

Lamar Thompson was reportedly swimming with his girlfriend and another friend when he drowned around 1 p.m. on Sunday.

Thompson was swimming away from a platform when he went under and never resurfaced.

Police recovered Thompson's body approximately 40 minutes later.  He was in 12 feet of water not far from where he had last been seen.

His friends and even total strangers tried to save him before first responders arrived, but they were unsuccessful.

According to friends, Thompson moved to Quincy from Jamaica two years ago.  He would have been a senior at Quincy High School.  He was also a member of the varsity soccer team.
