(FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – An orphanage in Haiti being built in memory of a Rutland teenager has marked another milestone.
A roof was put into place over the building in Port-au-Prince on Wednesday.
Britney Gengel's family is building the orphanage as tribute to "Brit." She was killed in the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. Hours before the quake, Britney texted her parents saying she wanted to move to Haiti and open an orphanage.
Since her death, her parents, Len and CherylAnn, have made it their mission to make that dream come true.
The orphanage will be home for 33 girls and boys, signifying the number of days it took to find Gengel in the rubble.
