DA to release report on teen's slaying by police

Posted: Updated:

NEW BEDFORD (AP) - Bristol County District Attorney Sam Sutter is expected to release results of his investigation of the fatal police shooting of a 15-year-old New Bedford boy who allegedly stabbed an officer.

Sutter's office says his report will be released at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Malcolm Gracia was killed May 17.

Sutter said then that officer Tyson Barnes and other members of the police gang unit approached Gracia and another person at a housing development the night Gracia died. Sutter said Gracia repeatedly stabbed Barnes without provocation. He said other officers ordered Gracia to stop, but he did not.

Friends have said Gracia was acknowledged as the son of a man fatally shot by Dartmouth police in 2009, but didn't know about the relationship before the man died. People who knew Gracia said he had behavioral problems afterward.
