MILFORD (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – Selectmen in Milford have unanimously decided to partner up with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in an effort to make sure all employees there are eligible to work in the United States.
Milford would reportedly be the first town in Massachusetts to join in the program called Mutual Agreement.
The ICE program provides rapid verification of I-9 forms and minimizes the likelihood of hiring illegal immigrants. The program has been around for the past six years.
Milford has tried to crack down on illegal immigrants recently. The issue came to a head last year when 23-year-old Matthew Denice was hit while riding his motorcycle and killed by Nicolas Guaman, who police say was driving drunk.
Guaman is an illegal immigrant. His attorney says he is mentally incapable of standing trial.
