WESTLAND, Mich. (WJBK) -
Thousands of kids took the messy plunge into a mud-filled pit during the 25th annual Mud Day in Westland.
Officials at the Wayne County Parks mixed 200 tons of top soil and 20,000 gallons of water to create the muddy wonderland at Nankin Mills Recreation Center at Hines Park.
"It's the one time kids can go into the mud and not get punished for it," joked Wayne Co. Executive Robert Ficano.
Participants blasted into the soupy mix around 11:45 a.m. Tuesday with the muddiest boy and girl being named King and Queen at the end of the event.
The Westland Fire Department was on hand to hose off the muddy kids and adults, ensuring a clean care ride for the way home.
