EBT override vote today

Posted: Updated:

(FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – Lawmakers are planning to vote Wednesday to overturn Gov. Deval Patrick's veto on specific welfare reforms.

On Sunday, Gov. Patrick nixed part of the 2013 budget that would limit EBT cardholders from using their benefits at nail salons, jewelry stores, and on individual items including tattoos and guns. He did keep in place a ban on purchases at businesses like strip clubs, cruise ships or casinos.

Several lawmakers, including House Speaker Robert DeLeo, will try to override the governor's veto as early as Wednesday. If they get enough votes, Gov. Patrick will have to sign or veto the original provision.

FOX 25's Sharman Sacchetti will be following this story from the State House and will have a full report tonight on the FOX 25 News at 6.
