Guard on the road to recovery discusses prison attack

BOSTON -

Nathan Beauvais told FOX 25's Tyisha Fernandes he is lucky to be alive after being stabbed by an inmate at the Souza Baranowski Correctional Center three weeks ago.

Nathan's wife, Nicole, spoke for her husband, saying he is stepping back and letting the investigation continue.

Beauvais was conducting a contraband search in an inmate's cell on June 25 when the inmate stabbed him in the neck. When the guard's partner responded to the cell he was struck by another object.

A total of seven prison guards were injured in the brawl at the maximum security lockup in Shirley on June 25.

The shank was millimeters away from Beauvais' spinal cord. While he is back home, his wife has created a medical station in their living room that includes products to clean his feeding tube.

Nathan's optimism has rubbed off on his wife. She says that this has shown her that they can get through anything together.
