Hyannis man killed in motorcycle accident

DENNIS (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - A 35-year-old Hyannis man died early Sunday morning after he lost control of his motorcycle and hit a utility pole on Route 28 in Dennis.

Dennis Police responded to the motor vehicle accident on Route 28 in the vicinity of School Street in West Dennis around 1:05 a.m. on Sunday.

Upon arrival, officers found two motorcycles and their riders in the travel portion of the east bound lane in front of 351 Route 28. 

According to police, the motorcycles, each occupied by one person, were travelling east on Route 28 when both operators lost control.  They struck a utility pole on the south side of Route 28, and then the bikes flipped onto their sides launching the two victims forward onto the street.

One of the operators was identified as 43-year-old Edward Kelley of Starbuck Lane in Yarmouthport.  He was transported to Barnstable Municipal Airport and from there he was taken to a Boston hospital via helicopter.

The second operator was identified as a 35-year-old Hyannis man, who was transported to Cape Cod Hospital were he later died.   His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. 

Police are looking to speak with the operator of a third motorcycle who is believed to have been travelling with the group.

The accident remains under investigation, and anyone with information is asked to call the Dennis Police Department at 508-394-1314.
