Posted: Updated:

BOSTON (AP) - Police are investigating an overnight shooting in Boston that left two men dead and a third man injured.

Authorities say the victims were shot while sitting in traffic on Shawmut Avenue in the city's South End.  The vehicle was on a bridge over the Massachusetts Turnpike at about 2:30 a.m. Monday.

The person in the driver's seat and a front seat passenger were pronounced dead at the scene. A back seat passenger was taken to a hospital with injuries that police say are not life-threatening.

Police say they think two other people were in the car and fled the scene.

No names were released.

Witnesses told police that occupants of a gray SUV with Rhode Island plates opened fire on the victims' car, then drove off. Police are currently looking for that vehicle.
