(FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – The man Robert DeLeo replaced in the House Speaker's seat is promising to fight his corruption conviction all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Former Speaker Sal DiMasi is serving an eight-year federal prison sentence. Last year, he was found guilty of accepting payments in return for the awarding of state contracts.
DiMasi's attorney told the Boston Herald that he plans to petition the high court if an initial appeal is rejected by the First Circuit Court of Appeals in Boston.
As part of the appeal, DiMasi is trying to regain his $5,000-a-month state pension, which has been suspended since September.
The 66-year-old is currently being treated for Stage 4 cancer in a federal prison hospital in North Carolina.
