Abducted pastor release; Boston church rejoices

Posted: Updated:

BOSTON (AP) — Family members and parishioners are rejoicing after receiving word that a Boston pastor and an Everett woman kidnapped in Egypt have been released.

The Rev. Michel Louis was abducted from a bus Friday while on a church trip to retrace Jesus' steps through the Holy Land. Another person on the trip, Lissa Alphonse, was also kidnapped, as was a guide.

The kidnapper tells The Associated Press that he handed the three over to security officials near the northern Sinai city of el-Arish. He was demanding the release of his imprisoned uncle.

Back in the Dorchester section of Boston, Louis' eldest son, the Rev. Jean Louis, says the family is overjoyed by the news that Louis and Alphonse have been released. He's very emotional and says he just wants to talk to his father.
