Local entrepreneur designs green shirts

A local entrepreneur is recycling her career - designing earth-friendly t-shirts. The shirts are inspirational from the inside out.

Julie Geisinger left her day job in public relations to start Free to be Yoga Tees. The shirts are made in the USA and are composed of sustainable fabrics. Some are made out of organic bamboo. Others are 50% organic cotton and 50% recycled plastic bottles.

The shirts have inspirational sayings like "Peace, Love, Gratitude" and "Be the change you want to see in the world."

Upon starting the company, Julie learned 10% of oil goes into plastic bottles, but only about 30% get recycled. The rest go into landfills. She says the statistics blew her away and she wants to try to make a difference.

These wearable recyclables keep plastic out of our environment. And Julie added another touch. Her tags are embedded with wildflower seeds, so people can plant them instead of throwing them away.

The shirts sell for $30-$40. You can buy them at Artist-in Market at 12 Oaks Mall in Novi and at Santosha Yoga in Chesterfield Township.
