ITHACA, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a 16-month-old upstate New York girl has survived a fall from a window on her family's third-floor apartment.
Police in Ithaca tell local media that the girl fell Thursday afternoon through a screened window less than a foot above the apartment's living room floor. She landed in a grassy area below.
When emergency crews arrived, the toddler was being attended to by relatives and neighbors. Police say she was conscious, crying and alert.
The girl was taken to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse for treatment.
Police say the girl's mother had left the room for a moment to fix a baby bottle when the toddler fell.
The investigation is continuing but police say it appears that the fall was accidental.
