State health officials say an injured bat discovered by a group of children in Spencer may have exposed them to rabies.
According to the Telegram and Gazette, the bat was reportedly found after it fell from a tree in Luther Hill Park on Tuesday. Health officials were told that several children gathered around the bat and some began petting it.
The bat was later tested and found to have rabies.
One child was bitten by the bat and is undergoing treatment, but health officials are asking anyone else who may have touched the bat to contact their doctor immediately.
