BIDDEFORD, Maine -

A Maine man is facing federal firearms charges after state police allegedly stopped him for speeding Sunday morning only to find he had numerous weapons in his car.

During the stop, the man allegedly told authorities he attended "The Dark Knight Rises" movie the night before with a loaded gun in his backpack.

Police say 49-year-old Timothy Courtois of Biddeford was arrested after an officer clocked his car at 112 mph on the Maine Turnpike with a brand new Ford Mustang he had purchased on Saturday. Police said the car looks very similar to a Ford Mustang currently in police service.

Officers said a search of his car turned up an illegal AK-47, four handguns, ammunition and clippings about the Friday shooting in Colorado that left 12 people dead at a midnight screening of the Batman movie.

At the time of his arrest, officers say they also found a glass pipe that held residue from a substance that smelled of marijuana. Courtois later admitted that the substance was "K2," a synthetic compound that mimicks the effects of marijuana. During their investigation, law enforcement officers learned "K2" is made with controlled substances and is therefore illegal.

Police said he also had several guns, including a machine gun, and thousands of rounds of ammunition in his home in Biddeford.

State police said they believe Courtois has an infatuation with law enforcement and may have wanted drivers on the turnpike to believe he was an officer.

Courtois told authorities he was on his way to Derry, N.H., to shoot a former employer. Investigators allege that Courtois asked them several times during their questioning of they could "get him some weed so he could smoke weed and eat Chinese food."

Courtois was originally charged with speeding and having a concealed weapon. He is now facing several other charges that include false statement in connection with the acquisition of a firearm, possession of firearms by unlawful user of controlled substance, and possession of firearm by unlawful user of controlled substance.
