BOSTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – A state panel has approved a disability pension for retired State Police Col. Marian McGovern.

According to the Boston Herald, McGovern would take home about $163,000 a year if final approval is received.

State police said that McGovern was diagnosed with a cardiac condition that will require "lifelong management and care."

Her application for a disability pension will go before the state retirement board on Thursday.

McGovern was the state's first female state police colonel. She just retired this past June after being appointed in 2009.
