DETROIT (WJBK) -
"He was just back there shooting around," a woman said. "He was calling 'Jake.'"
Exclusive new details have been released only to Fox 2 News. The night two Westland teens disappeared, several people claim to have seen a thin white man driving in the area screaming the name Jake, one of the missing, and firing a gun in the air.
"It was a white guy, white male, driving. I don't know if he was the one shooting, but I know that he did flash a weapon," a man told us.
A source in the Detroit Police Department confirmed this report, but not the man's identity. 18-year-old Jake Kudla and 17-year-old Jourdan Bobbish were last seen Sunday. Police are following leads the boys went to get high on prescription drugs with a family member.
People who know the area fear the worst.
"If they were over here, it had to be something criminal going on. I'm [being] honest about it. Like I said, this is a drug infested crime area, and if they found that car or whatever vehicle was up in the alley behind this building here, and then like they said on the news last night, it was bleached down, I don't want to just come out and say it, they're probably gone," the man remarked.
The boys were last seen at an uncle's house on the east side, but the 2001 white, two door Cavalier they were driving was found on Detroit's west side behind an apartment building. Police say it had been stripped and bleached down. Two men were taken into custody for receiving stolen property.
The family said they were asked by Detroit Police to step back and not search the area. They did comply with that request on Wednesday, but said they don't know how much longer they will be able to sit at home and wait for their loved ones to be found.
"They can't ask me to sit home, watch TV. If there's a father out there that can do it, bless you. I can't," said Ziggy Kudla, Jake's father.
In Westland, the anxiety is at a boiling point. Friends and family respectfully refused DPD's request to stay quiet and not talk to the media. Kudla's speech was slurred from sleep deprivation, but his will to search has not wavered.
"I'm willing to go to any lengths to find these boys, whatever it takes to get them back."
Kudla said he does have a license to carry a concealed weapon and he will use it when he goes to Detroit's west side and searches in the abandoned buildings there. We asked him if he was the man who residents say they heard shooting in the air and screaming the name "Jake". He said it was not him.
Anyone with information is asked to call Detroit Police.
