BOSTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – The school day is about to get longer for several Boston Public Schools and could also mean being open on the weekends.
The Boston Herald reports that several schools will be added to the Project Promise program.
Several yet-unnamed schools could extend their day by two hours. They could also be open for three hours on Saturdays.
The schools and the teachers union are in stalled contract talks.
Union officials say they support Superintendent Carol Johnson's plan.
Teachers at the schools will be paid their standard $41 an hour. Those who don't want to work the extra hours can transfer.
