FITCHBURG (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – Several dogs were rescued in Fitchburg from horrible conditions. Police say its the worst they've ever seen.
Authorities were called to an old Registry of Motor Vehicles building on Water Street after a gas company found several dogs caged in the cellar.
Officers said up to six dogs appeared to have been left in the cages for some time as their feces were piled six to seven inches high in the cages.
All dogs have been taken for medical treatment.
Police say the owner of the building will face felony animal cruelty charges.
