SPRINGFIELD (AP) - Police in Springfield are looking for the shooter who fired into a group of young people at a late-night beach party.
Three people, including a 17-year-old girl, were wounded and taken to hospitals after the shooting that happened at about 12:40 a.m. Friday at the beach on Lake Lorraine. There was no immediate word on their conditions.
Capt. Cheryl Clapprood said about 15 to 20 young people had gathered on the beach to swim when witnesses said a gunman wearing a black hooded sweatshirt came out of the woods and started shooting.
Officers searched the nearby woods for the shooter but did not find anyone.
Police said 40-caliber shell casings were recovered from the beach.
