STONEHAM (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) A private investigator tells FOX 25 that K-9 teams have located an area of interest in the search for missing Woburn teenager Melanie Melanson.
The K-9 teams were part of a renewed search for the missing teen in the Middlesex Fells Reservation in Stoneham on Saturday. The search was called off around 2:45 p.m. due to impending weather.
The investigator also told FOX 25 that he will not know for sure if the K-9 team's discovery is a promising lead until all data is collected and analyzed from the search. He says that will take at least 48 hours.
A team of private investigators say they recently received a tip that suggests Melanie's remains may have been moved from Woburn to the reservation.
One investigator told FOX 25 News' Bob Ward that the tipster's information is credible and checks out with other information they have received in the case.
Melanie Melanson went missing in 1989. She was last seen in the woods following a high school party. No suspects have ever been named in her disappearance.
The next search is scheduled for August 17 on Montvale Avenue.
