About a week after two teens from Westland went missing, their families are now planning funerals. Meanwhile, the two men charged with stealing from their car failed their polygraph tests when questioned about the crimes and what happened to the teens.
"The main thing was I had a feeling and just needed to get him home, and I wouldn't rest until he was home, so it was kind of a relief that he's coming home," said Mike Bobbish.
The parents of Jake Kudla and Jourdan Bobbish spoke out for the first time Monday. Their families searched for the missing teens for nearly a week and then the unthinkable happened. Their bodies were found shot to death execution style in a field on Detroit's east side.
Autopsies revealed Jake was shot multiple times and Jourdan sustained a bullet to the back of the head.
"You're supposed to die before your kids, right? I don't know what to say. I don't know what it is I feel or what I'm supposed to do," said Ziggy Kudla, Jake's father.
"Fell apart and we cried all day," Bobbish said. "They crossed the path of a monster, that's all I can say."
As we first told you, Jake's uncle, who was the last person to see them, admitted to police he gave them drugs that night. Since then, Richard Baxter, who records show is on probation after serving time for possessing and distributing drugs, has been questioned several times by police. Detectives believe Jake and Jourdan were looking to buy drugs after visiting Baxter and then met up with the wrong people.
The question is whether Casey Green and Larry Anderson are connected? Both were charged after they were allegedly caught with Jake's car. They're accused of stripping the stereo equipment and wiping it down with bleach. They have not been charged with murder, but a source has told us both Anderson and Greene have failed their polygraph tests when questioned about the crimes.
Meanwhile, there is undescribable pain for the parents of the teens, who are proudly wearing arm bands in memory of their children made by members of the community, who continue to offer their support. They don't want Jake and Jourdan to be remembered for how they died, but rather who they were.
"He touched so many lives in his life, and sometimes you only get them for 18 years, but it was a wonderful 18 years, and I'm thankful for those 18 years," said Bobbish.
We're told that plans for Jake's funeral have not been finalized, but Jourdan's funeral is set for 11:30 a.m. Friday at Ward Presbyterian Church in Northville.
The Bobbish family has also set up a memorial fund. Anyone can donate at any Fifth-Third Bank location. They want to make it a scholarship fund or donate to a charity in Jourdan's memory.
